Memory Of

Gone is the glow of the cardioid that shone in the palm of my hand
A luminous heart that sat in the loop of my first wedding band
He left me behind by an act cold and hard
But he left me one jewel and one flower to guard

And that ring I tucked in the back of a drawer
For fear that its heart would shine no more
Now the flower’s grown tall and the jewel shines bright
So I took out the ring for I thought it just might

Show me the heart that the ring kept inside
When he was my husband and I was his bride
And although life did not go at all as I planned
That small heart yet sits bright in the palm of my hand
